Questions We Get Are:

What are the best maintenance products for my new boat?

We hear that question a lot and so many people don't understand that it is
vitally important to wax your new boat within the first few weeks of ownership.
Why?  Because the instant your new boat is exposed to the sun's harmful
UV rays, your gelcoat starts deteriorating...  slowly, but surely.  So, in
order to protect your investment, it's very simple to apply good
quality long lasting boat wax to your gelcoat finish.

Of course, we recommend Island Girl Mirror Hard Super Glaze because it will
protect your boat's fiberglass finish for 12 months or more.  And, it is
easy to apply, especially on a new boat.  You can also apply to all your
stainless steel railings, fittings, and accessories.  Just make
sure you wash your boat and it is completely dry before applying
any wax.

How Do I clean vinyl boat upholstery?
The very best thing you can do to protect your vessel's vinyl upholstery is to
purchase or make a durable cover using Sunbrella™ or other similar
material and keep your vinyl covered at all times.  It is expensive but
definitely worth it.

If that isn't in your budget, here's the next best thing.  Island Girl has a
multi-use product that will not only deep clean your gelcoat, but will
rejuvenate your vinyl and restore color.  It makes white white again and
brings back faded colors like reds, greens and blues.

Simply wash your vinyl with Island Girl Pink cleansing lotion, then clean
with Island Girl SeaGlow.   When finished, spray a light coat of Island Girl
SilkenSeal and you will be absolutely amazed at the results.
Not harmful to the environment or other surfaces.

What is the best way to clean or restore clear plastics?

The number one rule is to never ever try to clean clear plastic windows/curtains
without first washing them with a hard stream of water, your favorite boat
cleaner (mine is Island Girl Pink) and a soft bristle brush to remove sand, salt,
dirt, bird droppings, etc.,  before you attempt to clean and or, restore
your plastic.

I've used a multitude of clear plastic cleaners over my detailing career and
there are several I like a lot, but if I had to choose just one, it would be
Island Girl's Clear Horizons.  Why you ask?  Other polishes do a fairly good
job of adding a light wax coat but they don't include any restorative agents.
Island Girl Clear Horizon's has a ingredient that fills in minute scratches
and a polishing agent that brings clear plastics back to good condition.
This product also works well on eye and sunglasses, mirrors, and stainless
steel.  Clear Horizons is easy to apply and holds up for several months,
beading water.

What I recommend in a boat wash...

Washing your boat regularly is a must if you want your boat to look great
and keep the finish from yellowing.  There is a maze of products in every
marine store
; some good and some not as good.  My requirements are
economy and ease of use.  But cheap is not usually how I judge products.
Look in your supply locker and count how many different products you've
tried over the ownership of your boat.  Have you found a product that
doubles as a great boat wash, but serves double or triple duty for other
jobs?  Not!

I recommend you try Island Girl's Pink concentrated cleanser!  Not only
will you have a squeaky clean finish, this miracle product will serve as a
degreaser for dirty bilges and engines, too.  In fact in the manufacture's
testing, you can safely remove graffiti and even cured 5200 sealant.  Throw out
all those other products using up precious space and get one great product
that will give you great economy and serve as a multi-purpose cleaner.

How do I clean old wax from my fiberglass finish?

If your old wax has become yellow or chalky, it's time to remove the old wax
and start with a perfectly clean surface before applying a new coat of wax.

Caution:

Do not apply new wax over a yellow or chalky fiberglass boat's
    gelcoat finish.
Although your boat may look great right
after your application, you will surely be disappointed
in a month or two when you have the same old chalky
yellowish look to your boat.

The correct way is remove the old wax and apply new boat wax to a clean surface.
What's the best way to do that?  SeaGlow is Island Girl's proprietary gelcoat
hull cleaner.  It will remove black marks and all traces of yellowing wax and
provide a perfectly clean surface for you to apply your choice of wax.

However, if you don't want to duplicate your labor in a short period of time, I
recommend an application of Simply Brilliant Super Wax.  This product is
formulated to cover up imperfections in your boats hull by filling in the tiny
pits and valleys that occur in  older boat's fiberglass finishes.  Again, this is
the very best boat wax available and is guaranteed to bead water and
protect your gelcoat for 12 months or more saving you both
time and money.

What is the best boat wax or polish?

That is a great question and if you have ever been to your favorite boat store
looking for the best boat wax, you've seen others scratching their heads and
doing the same.  There are so many choices and each one claims to be the best.

In fact, I bet if I could walk with you and open your lazzerette containing
your cleaning supplies, we would find four or five half used containers of
various brands of boat detailing products.  You would lose the bet, because
I have done this a number of times with boat owners that just don't realize
they have a collection of products that just don't perform as advertised.
Wouldn't it be great if you could have just one product that you could
rely on from now to keep your boat looking as new as possible.

You can with an Island Girl boat detailing kit!  Not only will you save time
and money for years to come, you save space by eliminating all the clutter
of useless products you've purchased over the years.  After all... the only
thing you really want is to spend less time on maintenance and more time
on the water with a great looking boat; isn't that right?

What is the best gelcoat cleaner?

This question is sort of a duplicate question to "how do I clean my fiberglass
hull?"  Let me explain the technical problem with fiberglass boats with a
gelcoat surface.  When boats are made, they are made using different
methods of fiberglass construction, but they all share one thing in common...
Gelcoat.   Gelcoat is defined as a thin layer of resin that protects the hull,
sealing the fiberglass beneath from the elements including water, moisture
and the sun's ultraviolet rays.  The gelcoat also gives the boat its color and
provides a glossy finish, similar to paint on a car.

Here's what happens.  The sun is one of the many enemies of gelcoat.
Over time, the suns harmful UV rays cause tiny pits and valleys in your boat's
gelcoat surface.  It's difficult to see them, but they're there.  What happens is
your boat loses some of its gloss or shine.  So what do you do?  You wax or
polish your gelcoat using one of the many over-the-counter  products put on
store shelves.  If you read the product label, you will see that one of the
major ingredients is a petroleum derivative.  And for the uninformed, this
ingredient  is quickly degraded by the sun and contributes to to the
deterioration of your boats finish: sometimes in as quick as three months.

How can you eliminate this problem?  The quick answer is to change from
your petroleum based product to a polymer or, in the Island Girl System,
a harder, more durable resin based product.

These boat detailing products last longer, shine better and reduce your
yearly maintenance costs.  Again, my recommendation as a boat detailer
who has tried every product available and has made a living from
recommending and using only the best boat wax products are the Island
Girl System of Products
.  They last longer, provide a higher shine and
work miracles on older boats of all types; saltwater and freshwater boats
alike, including jet ski's.

Will the Island Girl products work on RV's and Airplanes?

Yes!  The Island Girl System of products will work on any metal or plastic
surface.  Faded Imron or other hard surface RV, Boat and Airplane surfaces
will dull over time.  The product to use is Island Girl's Mirror Hard Super Glaze.
This product will bring back the shine to these types finishes.
Note: read label instructions before applying.

It's up to you now!
